Alliance News | Chairman Ma Attends UNDP SDG Impact Steering Group Meeting

The United Nations Development Programme SDG Impact Steering Group convened in New York on Feb 19th, 2020. As a precautionary approach during the COVID-19 outbreak, China Alliance of Social Value Investment Chairman Weihua Ma, together with Secretary General Angela Bai, joined the meeting remotely in Shenzhen.

At its second meeting, Steering Group members shared the latest cases of implementing sustainable development finance in various countries, and updates on the SDG Impact Practice Assurance Standards and SDG Impact Opportunity Map pilots. Members engaged in discussions on the strategic implementation of the initiatives, further affirmed UNDP's well placed position in the much needed path of directing capital towards the financing of the SDGs.

Chairman Ma presented the Bosera CSI Sustainable Development 100 ETF as a representative implementation of sustainable development finance in China to the Steering Group. "It is an exploration of impact management, an extension of impact information and an exemplification of impact engagement. The Bosera CSI Sustainable Development 100 ETF raised 1.47 billion RMB on its IPO, marking the first collaborative effort between a pro-fit and a non-profit organization in developing products, roadshows and fundraising, investment and launching of the product", Chairman Ma spoke during the presentation. He also expressed that he is looking forward to working closely with UNDP and other Steering Group members in the future.   

As the Steering Group discussed the setting of global standards, Chairman Ma shared that with a plethora of standards being set across the globe and within the UN System, the central issue is how to build a platform for conversation and coordination of the standards to encourage collaboration. He suggested having a global-level guideline, that can be localized at national levels. He also brought forth the suggestion that the UN should engage closely with various governments through high-level international forums, as a way to promote the SDG Impact and closely communicate with the Steering Group members regularly.
