Alliance News｜UN Under-Secretary-General Xu Haoliang Visits CASVI to Explore Long-Term Answers to Sustainable Development

On the afternoon of June 18, Mr. Xu Haoliang, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Acting Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), along with his delegation, visited the China Alliance of Social Value Investment (Shenzhen) (hereinafter referred to as "CASVI"). He attended a themed salon titled "Sustainable Development · Sustained Passion," engaging in deep exchanges regarding the innovative practice of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the construction of a sustainable development partnership ecosystem.

During the event, Wang Si, Secretary of the Party Branch and Secretary-General of CASVI, introduced CASVI's development history and key practices to Mr. Xu Haoliang and his delegation. As China's first international non-profit platform dedicated to sustainable finance and sustainable development, CASVI has maintained a close decade-

long partnership with institutions such as the UNDP in areas including social value investment advocacy, standard research and development, and the construction of SDGs Innovation Labs.

Looking ahead, aligned with UNDP's overarching goal of "supporting human progress while safeguarding planetary health"—and leveraging UNDP's core strength in formulating comprehensive development solutions driven by national priorities to support systemic change—

CASVI will further enhance its role as a hub and professional support system for sustainable development partnerships. By uniting diverse stakeholders including governments, enterprises, social organizations, and financial institutions, CASVI aims to harness digital and artificial intelligence technologies alongside innovative financial instruments. This collaborative effort will drive the implementation of innovative projects in fields such as silvertech (technology for the elderly), inclusive healthcare, digital culture, and rural revitalization, thereby promoting the integrated development of commercial, social, and environmental values.

Mr. Xu Haoliang highly commended CASVI's practical achievements in sustainable finance and social innovation over the years. He noted that China has accumulated rich experience in green, low-carbon transition and sustainable development. By building a cross-sector collaboration platform and facilitating the implementation of innovative projects, CASVI has provided valuable exploration for translating the philosophy of sustainable development into concrete actions.

Concurrently, Mr. Xu Haoliang exchanged views with the attendees on cutting-edge topics such as the United Nations' AI governance. When asked how to maintain a long-lasting passion, he drew from his over 30 years of diplomatic career at the UN to encourage the team to extend their cognitive horizons and adhere to a spirit of long-termism with sustained commitment. He pointed out that the true secret lies in integrating grand objectives into specific daily explorations, cultivating energy while solving practical problems, and building a healthy self that possesses a stronger sense of control and resilience. This approach allows changemakers to settle their enthusiasm into a sustained, lifelong passion alongside like-minded partners on the marathon track of sustainable development.

He concluded that all parties could further strengthen collaboration in the future to jointly explore development models that harmonize social value with sustainable operations, thereby contributing replicable and referenceable Chinese innovative experiences to global sustainable development.
